Basrah University Holds Ceremony to Raise the Hussaini Banner Marking the Beginning of the Holy Month of Muharram

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, and in cooperation with the Holy Hussaini Shrine, the University of Basrah held, on the morning of Wednesday, 17 June 2026, a ceremony to raise the blessed Hussaini banner, marking the advent of the holy month of Muharram. The event took place in the Grand Hall of the College of Arts at the Bab Al-Zubair Colleges Complex.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the University of Basrah, the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, the Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, as well as a number of college deans, faculty members, staff, and students.

The event included a commemorative address highlighting the humanitarian values and principles embodied in the uprising of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), emphasizing the importance of drawing inspiration from the meanings of sacrifice, reform, and steadfastness in upholding truth across all spheres of life.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, attendees proceeded to the courtyard of the Central Library, where the blessed Hussaini banner was raised in a spiritually uplifting atmosphere that reflected the significance of this occasion in the hearts of the university community and their readiness to welcome the days of the holy month of Muharram.
