In collaboration with students from the Department of Musical Arts at the College of Arts, Department of Arabic Language, a cultural morning event is being organized about the Muwashshah.

 

The Arabic Language Department Organized a Cultural and Artistic Morning in Cooperation with Students from the Music Arts Department at the College of Fine Arts 


This took place on Tuesday morning, February 10, 2026, in Al-Farahidi Hall at the College of Arts.

The morning session, moderated by Dr. Walid Mazhar, included a variety of segments, ranging from critical readings of the muwashshah to readings and performances. The session began with a welcome to the participants and attendees. Dr. Diaa Al-Thamiri then presented a critical paper on the muwashshah and its distinguishing features from the traditional poem. This was followed by a second critical paper from Dr. Yassin Adhab, who discussed the origins of the muwashshah and the relationship of the Levant and Andalusia to this beautiful art form. Two students from the Department of Arabic Language, Zahraa Ahmed and Ali Bashir, then presented readings of some muwashshahs. This was followed by a performance of two muwashshahs by student Zainab Ali Dinar, accompanied by musicians from the Department of Musical Arts (Nour El-Din Adel, Nizar Waad, Karrar Alaa Ghali, Reda Maitham, Muhammad Al-Baroudi, and Zain Al-Abidin Baqir). In conclusion, the Department of Arabic Language expressed its gratitude to the participants and attendees, and to Dr. Qais Awda Al-Kinani, Head of the Department of Musical Arts at the College of Fine Arts and to the student Ahmed Hashem who coordinated this meeting.
