The Deanship of the College of Arts at the University of Basrah welcomed the ministerial committee responsible for overseeing the project to establish a PhD program in the Department of Translation on Monday, May 27, 2024. This committee, consisting of the esteemed members Professor Dr. Mahdi Faleh Khashan Kasid from the College of Arts at Al-Mustansiriya University (President ), Professor Dr. Omar Ahmed Shihab Shakir from the College of Arts at the University of Tikrit (Member), Professor Dr. Yasser Younis Abdul Wahid Mohammed from the College of Arts at the University of Mosul (Member), and Assistant Professor Dr. Akko Subhi Ghazali Hussein from Al-Imam Al-Adham University College (Member), conducted a site visit to the college in general and the Department of Translation in particular. They assessed the material and human resources and ensured the availability of the requirements stipulated in the postgraduate study regulations for the new program. They also inspected the department's infrastructure, including classrooms designated for master and PhD studies, discussion rooms, as well as the library and laboratory.

It is worth mentioning that the project to establish the program was initiated in February of the 2021/2022 academic year, and work continued to fulfill the requirements for human resources according to the stipulated conditions. Recently, the Ministry of Planning approved this establishment after the completion of these requirements, which led to the visit by the aforementioned committee.

The committee met with the teaching staff designated for the master and PhD studies in the college council to get to know them and their specializations, which qualify them to teach these programs in the department. The committee concluded the meeting with a recommendation to fully adhere to the agreed-upon terms of the establishment project.
The committee was welcomed by the esteemed Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Majid Abdul Hameed Al-Kaabi; the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Ridha Al-Tamimi; the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Kazem Al-Khafaji; the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Zahra Al-Hussain; the president of the Translation Department, Professor Dr. Jasim Khalifa Sultan Al-Maryani; and the president of the Scientific Committee in the department, Professor Zainab Sami Hawl.
