Discussion of the Student Abdul Wahed Saadoun Abdul Aziz’s Thesis

On Tuesday morning, 5/4/2022, a master thesis, entitled (The Qur’anic Vocabulary between the Morphological Function and the Qur’anic Context, Surat Al Imran as a Model), was discussed at the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts / University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by the student Abdul Wahed Saadoun Abdul Aziz included a preface, two chapters and an appendix. The preface dealt with the definition of terms, the first chapter discussed the verb forms between the morphological function and the Qur’anic context in Surat Al Imran, the second chapter included nouns between the morphological function and the Qur’anic context in Surat Al Imran, and the appendix discussed a table of morphological formulas in Surah Al Imran.

The thesis aims to identify the meaning of the morphological function and the relationship between the morphological function of the Qur’anic vocabulary and its Qur’anic context.

The thesis concluded that the morphological function of the Qur’anic vocabulary is fixed, but its meaning sometimes changes by changing its context in the Holy Qur’an because the Qur’anic context has given flexibility to the Qur’anic vocabulary within the text and that the weights of the abstract triple verb are more frequent than the abstract quatrain verb because of its ease and lightness in pronunciation, so its morphological weights increased, and because the large number of letters in the quatrain requires cost and hardship, so the use of the quatrain was less and it had only one structure, and that some of the past verbs are treated as the infinitive, like the verb “صدق” in the Almighty’s saying: “صدق الله” It came in the sense of the infinitive, that is: God’s saying is true (قول الله صدقٌ).

The research showed that the sources of the triple and augmented verbs are more frequent in Surat Al Imran, and the morphological functions agreed with their Qur’anic context, some of which were contradicted. As for the infinitives of abstract and augmented quatrain verbs, we did not find a single one that was mentioned in the blessed surahs. Then the study showed that the coming of verbs in the blessed surah is more frequent than the nouns.
